The Main Library is located in the heart of downtown Brockton. Built in 1913 with a $110,000 donation from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, the library has had a long history of serving the people of Brockton. The library completed a $12.1 million renovation in 2003.

The downtown library contains a diverse collection of books, videos, Books on CD, video games, magazines and newspapers. The Children's Room provides programs and materials for children of all ages. The fiction room lends out fiction, mysteries, and large-print books.

Our reference area contains reference books and the non-fiction collection. All DVDs, books on tape and music recordings are located in the Audio Visual room on the first floor.

The Main Library also has many computer resources and a Historical Room containing genealogical resources and historical records
